Freedom at its Deepest Level
This Sunday we are starting a new Sermon Series; Celebrating Faith & Freedom for 250 Years that will take us all the way to the 4th of July weekend. It is my prayer that God will bless our church and community with a biblical focus on the celebration of our nations quincentennial.
The United States is a country birthed with the idea of freedom and liberty:
• Our National Anthem describes us as – “The land of the free and the home of the brave.”
• Our Pledge proclaims – “Liberty and justice for all.”
• The Declaration of Independence states – “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
Freedom and Liberty: We fight for it - We sing about it - And times like this, we celebrate it!
However, in the pursuit of freedom and liberty there are more people experiencing some kind of bondage in their lives than ever before. I’m not talking about taxes to the King or slavery. I’m talking about bondage that comes from the pressures of life. Pressures with finances, relationships, personal health and our concern for the future. The stress people feel from dealing with their own sin and the sin of others. When our founding fathers used the word freedom in the creation of our nation, they understood that freedom itself is rooted in the Gospel of Christ. Could it be that the reason people are missing freedom at its deepest level is because they are not looking for freedom first in Christ, then find the freedoms a God-fearing nation can afford. Join me this Sunday for the first message in this 6-part sermon series.
